Nutrients matched to your substrate

Every substrate interacts with nutrients differently. Soil buffers pH and holds minerals longer, which means you can feed less frequently and at lower concentrations. Coco is essentially inert and drains fast, so it needs a dedicated A+B formula that accounts for its natural calcium-magnesium exchange. Hydroponic systems have zero buffer, demanding precise EC and pH control at every feed.

Base nutrients, boosters and additives: three complementary layers

A feeding programme has three layers that work together. The base nutrient provides the essential macro-elements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) your plants need in volume. Boosters such as Plagron Green Sensation 0.5 L push flowering intensity during the final 3 to 4 weeks for denser, heavier buds. Additives like root stimulators, enzymes and CalMag supplements fill specific gaps that the base feed does not cover.

Beginners often do well with a simple two-part base nutrient plus a PK booster. As experience grows, you can layer in stimulators and additives to fine-tune performance. A simple programme executed well beats a complex one poorly dosed — every time.

Dosage and pH: the two parameters to master

Every brand ships with a feeding schedule that lists recommended dosages per litre of water and per growth stage. Follow these schedules as a starting point and adjust based on how your plants respond. Measure EC after mixing to confirm nutrient concentration, and adjust pH to the optimal range for your substrate: 6.0-6.5 for soil, 5.5-6.0 for coco, 5.5-5.8 for hydro. A pH/EC meter is not optional — a pH error of 0.5 points can lock out multiple nutrients simultaneously.
