Roots are the engine of every indoor garden, and the container you choose determines how far that engine can go. A well-sized pot gives roots room to branch, drains excess water and lets oxygen reach the root zone — three conditions that directly affect how much your plants can produce. At Plant & Flower we stock a full range of pots and containers for every growth stage, from propagation trays to final-stage flowering pots, all compatible with soil, coco and hydro substrates. Up-potting progressively as roots develop is the surest way to keep moisture levels in check and avoid transplant shock.

Matching the right vessel to each stage

Indoor growing confines roots to whatever volume you provide. Too little and the roots circle the walls, choking nutrient uptake. Too much and the substrate stays wet for too long, starving roots of oxygen. The practical solution is to up-pot progressively — start small after cloning or germination and move to a larger container once roots reach the bottom. This keeps moisture levels in check at every stage and avoids the transplant shock that comes from jumping straight into an oversized pot.

Square plastic pots: maximising every centimetre

Square pots are the indoor grower's default because they tile perfectly inside a grow tent. Round pots leave wasted gaps; square ones fill the tray edge to edge. The range covers every phase of the cycle:

• 7 × 7 cm pots (pack of 10) — perfect for rooting cuttings and germinating seeds
• 3 L to 6 L pots — suited to the vegetative stage in compact tents
• 11 L to 18 L pots — the go-to size for a full seed-to-harvest run in a 120 × 120 cm tent
• 25 L pots — for mother plants or extended vegetative periods requiring deep root mass

Smart Pots: air-pruned roots for denser growth

Smart Pots are fabric containers made from breathable geotextile. When a root tip reaches the wall, exposure to air causes it to dry back and branch — a process known as air pruning. The result is a dense, fibrous root system that absorbs water and nutrients more efficiently than the thick, circling roots you get in a solid plastic pot. The 10 L Smart Pot is a popular all-round choice, while the 38 L version suits mother plants that stay in place for months. Pair fabric pots with an automatic irrigation system to offset the faster drying — geotextile loses moisture 20-30 % faster than plastic.

Saucers, trays and sizing your pot volume

Every pot needs something underneath to catch run-off. Square saucers are available from 18 cm up to 36.5 cm, matching standard pot footprints. For larger setups, Garland trays provide a single collection surface: the Garland 60 × 60 cm tray fits a small tent, while the 120 × 120 cm version handles an entire flowering space. The raised 12 cm lip contains even a generous flush without risk of overflow. Useful bonus: the tray also makes it easy to measure run-off EC.

• 100 × 100 cm tent — 4 to 9 pots of 11 L
• 120 × 120 cm tent — 4 pots of 18 L or 9 pots of 11 L
• 150 × 150 cm tent — 9 pots of 18 L or 16 pots of 11 L

SOG setups (Sea of Green) pack many small pots for a fast turnaround. SCROG (Screen of Green) uses fewer plants in larger containers with a longer vegetative period. Either way, each plant needs enough substrate to hold water and feeds between watering cycles without letting roots dry out or suffocate.
