What does Class 2 isolation mean on a grow light ballast?
Class 2 isolation means the ballast is double-insulated internally and does not require an earth (ground) connection to protect the user from electric shock. Unlike Class 1 equipment that depends on earthing for safety, a Class 2 ballast provides protection through its own double insulation. This is the recommended safety standard for horticultural ballasts used in indoor grow environments, particularly where humidity levels can be elevated.
Can the Optilight Horti Gear 400W run a metal halide (MH) lamp?
Yes. The Optilight Horti Gear 400W is a DUO ballast fully compatible with both 400W HPS and 400W MH lamps from any brand. Use an MH lamp during vegetative growth for its blue-spectrum output, then switch to an HPS lamp at flowering for red-spectrum intensity — all with the same ballast. Never use a lamp of a different wattage than 400W with this unit.
Where should I position the Optilight Horti Gear 400W ballast in my grow tent?
Always place the Optilight Horti Gear ballast on a flat, stable surface elevated from the floor — this protects against water splashes from irrigation. Ensure adequate airflow around the enclosure so the ventilation openings can function. Never cover the ballast, stack anything on top of it, or mount ballasts less than 100mm apart from each other. Keep it away from direct water sources and always indoors.
