A magnetic ballast designed for pure HPS or MH operation cannot deliver this profile accurately, resulting in unstable ignition, excessive ballast heat, or shortened lifespan for both the ballast and the lamp. Always use standard 400W HPS or standard 400W MH lamps only. Never use lamps of a different wattage with this ballast.
Should I place the Superplant Gear Box 400W ballast inside or outside the grow tent?
Placing the ballast outside the grow tent is generally recommended where possible, as magnetic ballasts generate heat during operation and keeping that heat source outside the tent reduces the thermal load on your growing environment. If the ballast must be placed inside the tent, ensure it is on an elevated surface with adequate clearance around all sides for the ventilation slots to function. Never place it directly on the floor, cover it, or stack items against it.
